Post No. 6964 News

September 15th., 2023

 Hello from Base Camp V!

Thanks to the Brigantine Fire, Police and EMS Departments for hosting a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony this past Monday. The solemn ceremony touched us all, as each member of the crowd remembered where we were that fateful day. The ceremony speakers provided heartfelt messages. These unprovoked attacks launched the Global War on Terrorism (GWOT), that so many of our VFW members participated in. We Must Never Forget!

The VFW ALL-AMERICAN Post 6964 End of Summer BBQ Bash, is this Saturday, Sept. 16th.  This event is OPEN to The PUBLIC! Both Inside and Outside seating is available.  From 2 PM to 4:30 PM, the event starts with our Cornhole Tournament, followed by "The BBQ BASH", at  5 PM.  There will be Plenty of Wonderful BBQ Selections to enjoy, Great Music by Johnny DiJoseph, a Cash Bar, with Domestic and Premium Beer, Wine, and White Claws, a 50/50 drawing, and a Whole Lot of Fun for the Family.  Admission is $20.00 for Adults and $7.00 for Children under 7.  So Join Us and Bid Farewell to Summer 2023 and Support Our Post in helping ALL Veterans, their Families, other Veteran Organizations, and Members of Our Community, in Need!

Attention Students! The VFW's Patriot Pen and Voice of Democracy Essay competitions, are underway. The Patriots Pen Essay competition is for the 6th., 7th. and 8th. grade students, and the Voice of Democracy Essay, is for High School Students.  Our Post judges will select the winners in each group, will receive a monetary prize. The Post's winners will then advance to the District, State, and finally the National competition. Each year the VFW National, selects the Patriotic Topic for the competition, and the students have to write their essay, following the competition rules. This is always a wonderful way for us to pass on the patriotic spirit to our youth. Parents and Teachers, we need your help in making students aware of this opportunity and coaching the students through the process.

ReminderSchool, has started!  When driving, please remember that the Children will be walking, riding their bikes, and taking the Bus, to and from school. Drivers need to pay Special Attention to the children, in the morning and afternoon, and especially when they are getting on and off the School Bus and Crossing the Street!

When the School Bus is stopped and the Red Lights are Flashing, you are to Stop, at a safe distance behind the Bus and Do Not Pass, until the Red Lights stop flashing and the Side Stop Sign has been closed!

Well, the Eagles won their Home Opener last night, against the Vikings, and they looked much better on Offense and Defense. D'Andre Swift showed what a solid runner he is with 175 yds.  The team has 11 days to practice, in preparation to their next game, if Tampa Bay, vs the Buccaneers, on Monday, the 25th.  The Giants were a Real Disgrace, being shut out 40 to 0, at home against the Cowboy's.  The only local winner was the JETS! They had to go to the backup QB, after Aaron Rogers was injured, and is out for the season, on the 4th. play! But the backup QB led the Offense, and the Defense keep them in the game. Then in Overtime, an undrafted rookie, took the Bills punt, and returned it for the winning score.  So plan to join us at the V, Thursday Eveningto root for the Eagles, and on Sunday at 4 to watch the Giants at the Cardinals, and the Jets at the Cowboy's! There will be a Donation Buffet before game time, and Buckets of Brew Specials. Remember, Fly EAGLES Fly!
